Team Houston :: Aashi 2011

I WILL RUN » 10 GIRLS. 10 STORIES. 10 CITIES.

We are running the Houston Half Marathon & Relay for Aashi. Although Aashi was born in a brothel, she has defied the odds of becoming enslaved there for life. Her rescued life gives reason to our running. You can make a difference for her and countless girls like her by joining Team Houston in Texas on October 23, 2011.

Aashi Gives Reason to Our Running . . .

95% of girls born in the district become enslaved.1

The red-light district in India is no place for a child to grow up. But many kids do because their mothers are enslaved in the brothels. And if you are a girl born there, it’s likely you will die there as well, because 95% of girls born in the district become enslaved. If the girls don’t get out early, they won’t get out at all.

That was the concern for a little girl named Aashi. She was born in the district and lived there the first 15 months of her life. It’s a dirty, unhealthy, tragic place that provides no hope for a better future. Aashi’s mom was distraught over the living conditions and the future danger to come. Aashi needed to get out as soon as possible.

As Our Own staff was told about Aashi and contacted her mother immediately. When the staff explained that her daughter could be rescued from these horrific conditions, Aashi’s Mom knew this was the only opportunity she would get to remove her daughter from a future of slavery. Aashi was rescued into the As Our Own family when she was 15 months old. She had many social difficulties from her difficult start but the love and care she receives from her As Our Own family has made all the difference.

There are countless girls in India just like Aashi who have been born in the red-light districts of India. They will grow up in the district and face futures of certain enslavement—unless someone steps in on their behalf.

Will you run for her?

Together, we are rewriting stories with every step.
