I'm running for Valarri

Training has begun.

Thursday, November 24th, 2011 at 7:30 AM I will be at the start line for the Atlanta Half Marathon. My very first 13.1-mile race. Why am I doing such a crazy thing, you ask?

It all started with a tweet.

My friends Andy and Stuart of Create to Restore sent me a link on Twitter to a video by As Our Own, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting human trafficking and helping orphans in India.

The video caught me off guard.

Toward the end of the video, ten cities and dates were listed. Atlanta was in that line-up and November 24th was next to it.

November 24th is my birthday.

Now, I'm not one to super-spiritualize things and look for a "sign", but I felt a "nudge". Lately, my heart has been drawn to helping victims of sex slavery. This may be news to you, but Atlanta is in the top three (spending most of the time at number one) cities in the U.S. for it's involvement in the sex slave industry. That's right, slavery. It din't end with the Civil War.

So I gave-in to the nudging.

Within an hour of watching the video, I was signed up to be the As Our Own Team Leader for team Atlanta.

So here I am. Training. Recruiting. Bugging you to help me get the word out.

I am a bit nervous. I have set a personal goal of $1,000 and a team goal ("Team Scobie") of $10,000 to raise for As Our Own.

So I need your help.

Please consider joining me for the race. There is nothing like rising to the challenge of a Half Marathon on a cool November morning. If you'd like, I'll even do some training with you. It would be great to get all of "Team Scobie" together a few times to put in some miles. Sign up and I'll let you know more details on that.

Consider donating. Your donation is (of course) tax-deductible AND (more importantly) is for an AWESOME cause. Here are a few:
-India has more ORPHANS than the rest of the world.
-Girls as young as SEVEN years old are forced into prostitution.
-An average of EIGHTY-TWO girls are trafficked in India each DAY.

Convicted yet?

Please consider joining me for this incredible opportunity to help those in need.
